Complete guide to Connect your first UniFi site

When you do this

Use this guide when connecting the first UniFi network to a new AXORIK workspace or adding another physical site.

What this means

The connection flow creates the site record, installs one local Connector, discovers the UniFi console, verifies dedicated local access and waits for fresh inventory before onboarding is complete.

Before you start

  • A Windows computer on the same local network as the UniFi console.
  • Access to the UniFi console with permission to create a local Super Admin.
  • The real organization, site name, location and time zone.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Create the workspace and generate its onboarding code.
  2. 2Download and run the Windows Connector while keeping the onboarding page open.
  3. 3Confirm the correct console after discovery.
  4. 4Create the dedicated local UniFi administrator only when AXORIK asks for it.
  5. 5Finish only after Live Operations shows the expected devices and fresh evidence.

How to know it worked

Dashboard opens for the correct site and shows the console, expected devices, Monitoring active and a current update time.

If it does not work

  • Do not create a second workspace when pairing fails.
  • Use manual activation only when the page says automatic pairing is unavailable.
  • If login fails, confirm that the UniFi administrator is local and Restrict to Local Access Only is enabled.

Important

The standard customer path uses the Windows installer. Docker is an advanced option, not a prerequisite.

What you will see on this page

These are the exact AXORIK sections to look for. Read them in the order shown unless the complete guide directs you to a specific finding.

1

Create Workspace

Records the site identity and location before a Connector is assigned.

Open full explanation

When you do this

This is the first screen after account creation when you connect the first network, or after selecting Start connection for another site.

What this means

A workspace is the AXORIK record that owns this site's devices, evidence and future actions. It is not a Wi-Fi network and it does not change the UniFi console.

Before you start

  • Use the real customer or business name.
  • Know the physical site name, city and time zone.
  • For an MSP, select the correct customer before creating the site.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Open Start connection.
  2. 2Enter the organization and physical site details.
  3. 3Review the names because they will appear in reports, alerts and the client portal.
  4. 4Select Generate Onboarding Code.

How to know it worked

AXORIK automatically opens Install Your Local Connector for the newly created site.

If it does not work

  • If the site already exists, return to it instead of creating a duplicate.
  • If the customer is wrong, stop before pairing a Connector.

Important

Do not reuse a personal administrator account.

2

Install Your Local Connector

Downloads the Windows Connector and pairs this computer with the new workspace.

Open full explanation

When you do this

You do this once during first-site onboarding, immediately after selecting Generate Onboarding Code. You do not need to prepare it before creating your AXORIK account.

What this means

For the normal customer path, stay on the Windows computer currently connected to the same network as the UniFi console. Download the Connector, run the installer and keep the AXORIK page open. Pairing is automatic. Docker is an optional advanced installation method for IT teams and MSPs, not a requirement for a normal customer.

Before you start

  • Use a Windows PC or server connected to the managed network.
  • Stay signed in to AXORIK in the same browser while the installer runs.
  • Make sure the computer can reach the local UniFi console and the internet.

Do this step by step

  1. 1On Install Your Local Connector, select Download Axorik Connector for Windows.
  2. 2Open the downloaded installer and complete the installation.
  3. 3The local setup wizard opens automatically.
  4. 4Keep the AXORIK onboarding page open while it detects the Connector on this computer.
  5. 5Wait for Connector Paired Successfully. Manual activation is shown only if automatic pairing is unavailable.

How to know it worked

The page displays Connector Paired Successfully and automatically moves to controller discovery.

If it does not work

  • If the setup wizard does not open, browse to http://localhost:8080 on the same computer.
  • If automatic pairing times out, use the Manual Activation Code shown by AXORIK.
  • Do not install additional copies to solve one failed pairing.

Important

Advanced Installation Options contains Docker for technical deployments. A standard customer can ignore it.

3

Connector Paired

Confirms that the installed Connector belongs to this AXORIK workspace.

Open full explanation

When you do this

This happens automatically after the Windows installer starts. Normally the customer only waits for the confirmation.

What this means

Pairing binds the local Connector to the intended AXORIK workspace so telemetry cannot be accepted into the wrong site.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Keep the onboarding page and local setup wizard open.
  2. 2Wait for Connector Paired Successfully.
  3. 3If AXORIK reports stale pairing, use Reconnect Connector to Workspace.

How to know it worked

AXORIK automatically advances to Discovering Controllers.

If it does not work

  • A Connector configured for another workspace must be reconnected through the guided recovery flow.
  • Do not create a new workspace just to obtain another pairing code.

Important

Do not create a duplicate site to bypass stale pairing.

4

Controller Discovered

Finds the UniFi console on the local network and asks for a choice only when needed.

Open full explanation

When you do this

This starts automatically after Connector Paired. The customer takes action only if more than one console is found or discovery cannot identify the correct one.

What this means

The controller is the UniFi console that manages the site, such as a UniFi Cloud Gateway, Dream Machine or CloudKey. It is not an access point, switch or individual camera.

Before you start

  • Know the console name or local address used for this site.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Wait while Discovering Controllers is shown.
  2. 2If one console is found, confirm that its name and type match the site.
  3. 3If several candidates are found, select the console that manages this site's devices.

How to know it worked

The correct console remains selected and AXORIK opens local access verification.

If it does not work

  • If no console appears, make sure this computer and the console can communicate locally.
  • Never select a console only because it responded first.

Important

A saved connection is not ready until fresh evidence arrives.

5

Connect Your Local Controller

Creates or uses the dedicated local UniFi administrator requested after discovery.

Open full explanation

When you do this

Do this only after AXORIK has discovered the correct console and the onboarding screen asks for local controller access.

What this means

AXORIK needs a dedicated local administrator on the UniFi console. A UI.com cloud login, SSO account or MFA-protected cloud identity cannot be used by the local API.

Before you start

  • Have access to the UniFi console with an existing owner or Super Admin account.
  • Prepare a unique username and strong password used only by the AXORIK Connector.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Open the UniFi console using its local web interface.
  2. 2Go to Settings > Admins & Users.
  3. 3Click Create New, then enable Admin.
  4. 4Enable Restrict to Local Access Only. This creates a true local username and password.
  5. 5Enter the dedicated local username and a strong unique password.
  6. 6Select Super Admin, then save the user.
  7. 7Return to the AXORIK local setup wizard and enter that local username and password, not your cloud email.

How to know it worked

AXORIK accepts controller access and begins importing the console identity and inventory.

If it does not work

  • If login is rejected, confirm Restrict to Local Access Only is enabled.
  • Do not use a UI.com email address as the username.
  • Keep MFA enabled on the cloud owner account. Create the separate local integration administrator instead of weakening the owner's security.

Important

The reusable credential stays in the local Connector. Never paste it into AXORIK support chat or another cloud form.

6

Live Operations

Opens the real dashboard after fresh console and device evidence arrive.

Open full explanation

When you do this

This is the final onboarding stage after controller access has been accepted. No additional setup is required unless AXORIK reports missing evidence.

What this means

A successful login is not the finish line. AXORIK waits for current inventory and telemetry so the Dashboard represents the real site.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Wait for Your Network Has Been Discovered.
  2. 2Select Explore Live Operations.
  3. 3Confirm the console and expected devices appear on Dashboard.
  4. 4Check that monitoring is active and the updated time is current.

How to know it worked

Dashboard shows the correct console, current device inventory and fresh monitoring time for this site.

If it does not work

  • If devices are missing, confirm the selected console manages them.
  • If data is stale, confirm the Connector computer is still online.

Important

Do not expose the controller directly to the internet.

Recommended workflow

Follow these steps in order. If a step is blocked, resolve it before moving to the next one.

1

Create Workspace

Enter the real site name and location under the organization that owns or operates the network.

Open detailed instructions

What this means

This creates the customer and site boundary used by monitoring, reports and actions.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Select the correct organization.
  2. 2Enter the physical site identity.
  3. 3Review the names and create the workspace.

How to know it worked

The site opens in onboarding under the intended organization.

Important

Do not reuse a personal administrator account.

2

Install Your Local Connector

When AXORIK displays this screen, download the Windows installer on a computer connected to the UniFi network and keep the onboarding page open.

Open detailed instructions

When you do this

Immediately after Generate Onboarding Code during first-site onboarding.

What this means

The normal customer path is Windows download, install and automatic pairing. Docker is optional and appears only under Advanced Installation Options.

Before you start

  • A Windows computer connected to the same network.
  • The AXORIK onboarding page open in the browser.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Select Download Axorik Connector for Windows.
  2. 2Run the installer.
  3. 3Wait while AXORIK detects the local Connector automatically.
  4. 4Use manual activation only if AXORIK says automatic pairing is unavailable.

How to know it worked

Connector Paired Successfully appears and controller discovery begins.

Important

Do not expose the controller directly to the internet.

3

Confirm Connector Paired

Wait until AXORIK confirms the Connector identity. If stale pairing is detected, use the guided reconnect flow instead of creating another site.

Open detailed instructions

What this means

Pairing proves that telemetry from this installation belongs to this workspace.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Wait for the automatic handshake.
  2. 2Use the guided reconnect only if stale pairing is detected.
  3. 3Do not create duplicate sites or Connector installations.

How to know it worked

The pairing step is complete and controller discovery begins.

Important

Do not create a duplicate site to bypass stale pairing.

4

Review Controller Discovered

Confirm the discovered UniFi console. If multiple candidates appear, select the console that actually manages this site.

Open detailed instructions

What this means

AXORIK may see more than one UniFi console on a reachable network, so identity must be confirmed before credentials are entered.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Compare console name, type and local address.
  2. 2Choose the controller that owns the expected site devices.
  3. 3Continue to access verification.

How to know it worked

The correct console remains selected and is named in the next step.

Important

A saved connection is not ready until fresh evidence arrives.

5

Connect Your Local Controller

Use a dedicated local UniFi OS administrator through the local Connector workflow. The reusable secret remains local.

Open detailed instructions

What this means

Create a dedicated local account in UniFi instead of reusing a personal or cloud account.

Before you start

  • Sign in to the console locally using an existing owner or Super Admin.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Open Settings > Admins & Users.
  2. 2Click Create New and enable Admin.
  3. 3Enable Restrict to Local Access Only.
  4. 4Set a unique local username and password.
  5. 5Select Super Admin and save.
  6. 6Return to AXORIK and enter the local username and password.

How to know it worked

Controller access is accepted and inventory collection starts.

If it does not work

  • Cloud email, SSO and MFA-protected cloud identities are not local API credentials.
  • Restrict to Local Access Only must be enabled.

Important

Never send this password to support or enter it into a cloud chat.

6

Verify Live Operations

Do not treat onboarding as complete until console identity, device inventory and current telemetry are visible.

Open detailed instructions

What this means

Fresh evidence proves that the entire path works, not only the login.

Do this step by step

  1. 1Open Dashboard.
  2. 2Confirm the console and expected devices.
  3. 3Check Monitoring active and the latest updated time.

How to know it worked

Inventory is correct and telemetry is current.

Important

Do not expose the controller directly to the internet.

Safety and interpretation

  • Do not reuse a personal administrator account.
  • Do not expose the controller directly to the internet.
  • Do not create a duplicate site to bypass stale pairing.
  • A saved connection is not ready until fresh evidence arrives.
