Complete guide to Smart Setup
When you do this
Use Smart Setup when building a new supported site configuration or restructuring Wi-Fi, networks and isolation on a connected site.
What this means
Smart Setup turns business intent into a proposed UniFi configuration. It discovers the current environment, shows the exact plan, runs Change Preflight and applies only what the user explicitly approves.
Before you start
- A connected site with fresh inventory and working local controller access.
- Real requirements for users, devices, guest access, IoT and protected management.
- An approved maintenance window for changes that may interrupt service.
Do this step by step
- 1Describe how the site is used and which groups must be separated.
- 2Resolve every discovery gap instead of guessing.
- 3Review Wi-Fi, VLAN, addressing, DHCP, DNS and isolation in the proposal.
- 4Run Change Preflight and read blockers, warnings and expected interruption.
- 5Approve only the displayed scope, then keep the maintenance window open through verification.
How to know it worked
The protected window reaches verified service, expected networks return and the change appears in the audit history.
If it does not work
- A failed preflight must be resolved before execution.
- If verification does not recover in the expected window, stop additional changes and follow the needs-attention evidence.
- Do not rerun the action while a maintenance session is active.
Important
Smart Setup is for supported configurations. Requirements that remain placeholders or depend on unsupported hardware need manual review.
What you will see on this page
These are the exact AXORIK sections to look for. Read them in the order shown unless the complete guide directs you to a specific finding.
Profile
Records how the location is used, who connects and which device groups must remain separated.
Analyze
Reads the connected console, gateways, switches, access points, clients and current network configuration.
Recommend
Explains the proposed operating model, business value, operational impact and tradeoffs.
Preview
Shows every supported network, Wi-Fi, VLAN, isolation, DHCP, DNS and policy change before execution.
Apply
Runs readiness checks, requests approval and performs only the supported actions shown in Preview.
Complete
Reads the controller again, verifies final service and begins configuration assurance.
Recommended workflow
Follow these steps in order. If a step is blocked, resolve it before moving to the next one.
Describe the site
Choose how it is used, who connects and which device groups must remain separated.
Complete discovery
Resolve controller, credential, equipment and topology gaps.
Review the proposal
Check addressing, Wi-Fi, VLANs, isolation, DHCP and DNS.
Apply and verify
Run preflight, approve the scope and wait for service verification.
Safety and interpretation
- Do not approve placeholder requirements.
- Protected management networks require extra review.
- Keep the maintenance window open until verification completes.
